|   Meet the Coaches   |

We are privileged to be able to guide and teach our most precious gifts from God - our children, our blessings. Along with the privilege of participating in this Academy, comes the responsibility of helping out as needed so it will be a smooth experience for us all. We desire that as students learn, that they will also grow in their relationship with God, and will seek Him. We ask all teachers and/or assistants to sign a Christian (non-denominational) Statement of Faith when they apply to teach a class.

We believe the mandate given to parents in Deuteronomy 6:6-9:

"...These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

Coach Kathy Seymour

Coach Kathy Seymour grew up participating in multiple sports including tennis, soccer, basketball, cross country, volleyball, and track. She played four sports in three seasons in high school and was part of multiple state championship teams. She continued to play sports after high school. She began coaching in her teens and then again when her own children were young. She has learned a lot about how to coach from those experiences and from the excellent coaches she has played under and been mentored by.

Coach Kathy graduated from West Virginia University and currently works as a pediatric physical therapist. She is married to Coach Eric Seymour (Eagles Basketball Coach) and the proud mom of four children: Jaci, Victoria, Mark, and Timothy. All four of her children have played travel level soccer and her oldest daughter currently plays at the college level. In addition, Coach Kathy is the Children’s Ministry Director at Second Branch Baptist Church where she and her family attend.

Coach Kathy has been a part of James River Eagles since 2012 and began coaching in the spring of 2014. When not involved with sports, she enjoys spending time with her family, her dogs, camping, and traveling. Her favorite professional soccer teams include the USWNT, Portland Thorns, and Tottenham.

Coach Richie Mills

Coach Richie has been constant on the Eagles Basketball court since he played for the Eagles during his high school career.

Also helping out coach our Girls Volleyball Team for 2018/2019 will be Richie Mills.  Although his high school athletic career ended before the advent of boys volleyball in our league, he was well known as a dominant hitter within the ranks of our co-ed rec volleyball program!

Coach William Heath

Many of you may know Mr William Heath as the "voice of the Eagles", but you may not know that he took private volleyball skills training from our former Volleyball Coach Cindy Bryant, and then put those skills to use in an adult league at Richmond Volleyball Club. He has agreed to become our head coach for girls volleyball this year.  He will be ably assisted by 2 of his daughters, Hannah Elizabeth and Jordan.  Both of these young women are James River Eagles legends in their own right, and among their athletic exploits are several seasons of excellent volleyball play, much of that under the coaching and tutelage of Coach Bryant.

Be Encouraged

"Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings as eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary."
